Is BBG Worth It? My Kayla Itsine’s Review

If you’re into health and fitness and you haven’t heard about Kayla Itsines and her wildly popular workout guides – Bikini Body Guides, better known as BBG – then you must be into health and fitness while living under a rock.

Seriously, she’s everywhere.

And after scanning through the hundreds of thousands of photos under:

  • #bbg
  • #bbggirls
  • #kaylasarmy
  • #transformationtuesday
  • #kaylaitsinestransformations

I decided to jump in and buy the damn guides. I mean, the Instagram photos of these women’s bodies are freaking amazing.

But could that all be bullshit? I wondered. Can you really get those insane results in just 12 weeks? And if you could, would it really be healthy?

The Simple Cleanse

Start your free 3-day trial today!

I was skeptical but…Well, let’s just find out, shall we?

I should tell you that I first attempted the 12-week program while traveling across the country for three months camping in an Airstream trailer. I made it through week five (did not do the pre-training that time) and then I quit.

I honestly quit because I got tired of trying to figure out when to workout and shower, which was really quite a challenge while camping. It’s inconvenient to get super sweaty when you don’t always have access to hot, running water. The things we take for granted, right?

Anyway upon my return to civilization toward the end of November, I began BBG anew. And this time, I decided to take the slow but steady approach and begin where one should, with the pre-training program.

Now before I go on, I should probably explain how the program works.

If you go to Kayla’s website, you can download a free 7-day trial, which is sweet and you should totally do that. It will give you an idea of the type of workouts you’ll be doing.

Essentially though, it’s three 28-minute workouts a week, mixed with stretching and some lighter cardio sessions in between.

The 28 minute workouts are divided into four 7-minute intervals. It’s really not as complicated as it sounds. You start the timer on your phone and do the listed workouts over and over until it stops.

Then you do the other 7-minute interval.

Then you repeat them each one more time.

So that’s two sets of workouts, done twice, for seven minutes. Does that make sense?

What’s really nice about the program is its simplicity (you know we love that around here).

It’s a PDF guide so you can pull it up on your phone, your iPad or your laptop. I’m a dinosaur so I printed the entire thing out and bound it at my old office before I resigned (mwuahahaha) so I literally have a binder that I keep open to the right day’s workout.

Every single workout for 16 weeks is laid out for you with pictures. It’s really easy to follow. You also don’t need much equipment. I do the workouts barefoot in my bedroom most of the time. The only things I’ve really needed so far have been my iPhone (as my timer), two 5 lb dumbbells and a bench that I use to step up on and do tricep dips.

Kayla Itsines BBG Review

She also has a H.E.L.P. Guide (Healthy Eating and Lifestyle Plan) to accompany the workouts, which I bought as well but, don’t really follow. As health coaches, Bridget and I have our own cleanse which you can do too, btw!

Now, there are four weeks of pre-training and then 12 weeks of the regular training. At the moment, I’ve completed:

  • Pre-Training Week 1
  • Pre-Training Week 2
  • Pre-Training Week 3
  • Pre-Training Week 4
  • BBG Week 1
  • BBG Week 2
  • BBG Week 3
  • BBG Week 4
  • And BBG Week 5, Workout 1 & Workout 2

Note: I actually only completed three of the four 7-minute intervals of Week 5, Workout 1, because I feel like hell when I did it. I might have been getting sick. So I stopped after three, caught my breath, and ate a cookie (not part of the healthy eating plan). Progress, not perfection, okay? Don’t judge me on the cookie.

After four full weeks on the regular training program (and four weeks of pre-training before that) here is what I know to be true:

IMG_2879

The workouts are no f’in joke.

You wouldn’t think that in just seven minutes your heart could beat so hard, your thighs burn so hot, or your breath rush so fast right the hell out of your lungs. But that’s what happens. I get so sweaty. I love it. I have never been able to push myself like this before while working out on my own.

I noticed myself getting stronger almost immediately.

And my recovery time – the time it takes me to catch my breath and my heart rate to get back to normal – is decreasing rapidly as well. Both signs of getting in better shape. I should actually time that but, let’s be honest, I probably won’t.

This is the first time that I can remember sticking with something this long.

Seriously. I did a 30-day yoga training, I did ClassPass. I trained for a half marathon but, I’ve never stuck with something for a full eight weeks straight before. I haven’t missed a workout (except that pesky 4th interval during Week 5, Workout 1).

The community is so incredibly lovely and positive, as is Kayla herself.

This might be the biggest benefit to the BBG movement. If you hop on Instagram at any given time you’ll find incredibly brave and inspiring women posting pictures of themselves in their underwear. Documenting their progress, cheering each other on and motivating one another. It makes me want to cry. It’s a huge, body positive, healthy-living community lead by a super positive woman who really walks her talk.

For instance, just last week, I’d taken my weekly underwear pic. (Sorry, not brave enough to share those just yet, if ever. Though my sister-in-law caught an eye-full last week while looking at another picture on my phone. Oops.) I felt less than enthused with my progress. We’re always our harshest critics, amiright? After my workout I was still feeling a little down while sweating all over myself on my bedroom floor. So I opened up Instagram and was instantly inspired by my fellow BBG girls and their stories. After encouraging a couple of women for their progress and admitting my own self-doubt, I was met with kind words of inspiration and an important reminder that this is a journey and there are many benefits to the program – aside from the after photo.

And that’s what I really love about this community. Of course, everyone wants to feel amazing in a bikini, and that’s just smart marketing, but the mental benefits, the confidence, the stamina, the positivity and the improved body image are all non-scale victories that are just as important.

As Kayla says, this is about much much more than a bikini. It’s about women loving how they feel and the confidence that comes with it. Ugh, I’m crying now. Now I’m crying.

So for the business you probably really wanna know, and since I’m not posting underpants pictures just yet. (Although I really, really admire all those who are brave enough to do that. And I thank them because that’s what inspired me to start my own BBG journey). I will tell you that I have:

  • Lost four pounds
  • My entire body has shrunk over an inch in circumference (chest, natural waist, belly button and hips)
  • I feel stronger and more toned
  • My butt looks perkier and my stomach flatter
  • And I’m super excited to complete the rest of the 12 weeks

Summary: I love BBG and yes, it is 100% worth the cost of the guides. If you’re in New York – it’s 16 weeks of workouts for approximately the cost of two barre classes.

And remember, I’m technically only a third of the way through!

I plan to write another review after week eight and then again after week 12. I hope you’ll come back to read those posts as well. I can’t wait to share my future progress with you guys.

So obviously, I cannot recommend Kayla and BBG enough.

And at the time of publishing this review, we are not receiving any affiliate commissions on her products. This is just my totally honest (and glowing) review of what I’ve experienced so far.

What’s your take? Have you tried BBG? Are you interested in it? Do you have any questions for me? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below.

Oh and if you’re interested in that FREE healthy eating plan, you can grab it by entering your email right here, we’ll send it over.

I really want to begin the BBG program but working at a barely over minimum wage job, its hard to afford. Do you have any suggestions? I have issues with going to the gym and not getting bored, and with things like this i find them difficult to stick with if im not doing it with someone; but i dont know ANYONE that would be willing to do them alongside me.

    • Dana says:

      Hi Adriana,

I 100% relate to getting bored at the gym, I ditched my memberships a long time ago!

As for the $ part, if you go to Kayla’s site, she has a free 7-day trial you can download. I would start there and do that one week on repeat for a while. You could also check her YouTube channel and Instagram feed. She posts workouts there for free as well. The guide, as I said, is 12 weeks of workouts. Each week there is a leg workout, an arm & abs workout and a full body workout and then she suggests some cardio in between. You could likely combine some of the exercises she published for free into your own version of BBG.

Either way, if you start doing the exercises consistently, you’ll get into the habit and start getting fitter and stronger quickly!

  • Emily says:

I just had a quick question,
is your complete eating plan free? or just the 3-day cleanse, as it’s advertising? I am definitely interested in it!

  • laneblackmer says:

I think the community is awesome and whatnot, but I haven’t quite figured out how to chat with other girls and hear about their progress. I’m on Week 6 and I’ve gained an incredible amount of muscle (leg and butt specifically), but I’ve gained 5 lbs. I was thinner to begin with, but due to a sh*t grad school diet, I carried middle weight. I still have *most* of that middle weight. I’m happy with the workout and everything, but disappointed that I haven’t met my weight loss goals as well as fat loss goals (the goal was to lose it in the mid section!). Ugh. I wish there was like a chat room or something for it to ask other girls and possibly seek guidance. I get the feeling it’s my diet.

    • Dana says:

Hey there! Are you on Instagram? Try the hashtag #nonscalevictories Also, I’m a firm believer that exercise will change the shape of your body, and get you physically fit, but only your diet can really change your weight. Perhaps it’s best to start there in conjunction with the exercises? If you want to chat about the diet side of things, I’m happy to connect and see if I can help – shoot me a note at dana (at) croptopsandkale (dot) com if you like.

  • Quinn says:

Hi, currently I kickbox and box at least 2 times a week each and am not having any success with losing inches. Would starting BBG in addition to kickboxing and boxing be advisable? I love it as a stress reliever. I’m inspired by the transformations I’ve seen Instagram and wanted to know what you’d think about doing both. Thanks!

    • Andreina says:

Hi Quinn! You won’t regret doing BBG, Dana is right and it’s an amazing program! The 28mins routines kick your butt in a good way. That being said, BBG consists of three 28min routines and three LISS (Low Intensity steady state) workouts per week the first 8 weeks, and then Kayla also adds one to two HIIT (high intensity interval training) routines per week for the last four weeks of the program (So you could definitely incorporate boxing and kickboxing as your LISS and HIIT workouts!) Cheers! – Andy

  • Andreina says:

Love this post and your honesty! I recently complete round 1 of BBG and for the first time in my life I’m truly happy with a workout, saw great result, love the community and will keep doing it!

  • SELINA CHAN says:

Thank u so much for your post! Really enjoyed reading it! Have heard a lot about this on instagram but didnt actually know what it entails and wasnt sure if i had the time as i work shifts including nights…but your post has given me a boost and i want to get back to being fitter and more!

    • Dana says:

Hey Selina! That’s great! Def give them a go.

I’m actually starting them again today! I did them over the winter and then have been sort of intermittently doing different combos of them since then and decided to do another full round this fall – have a friend starting with me today too!

And I have to say, although it can be a bit awkward (and you def don’t have to share them with anyone) take the before pictures and then a picture each week in the same outfit. They really kept me going when I felt like it was too hard or wanted to quit. You really can see a difference after just a couple of weeks and it’s wonderful motivation. And it’s also awesome to see your body getting stronger and toned up as you go. They’re a big mental part of the success, I now believe.

And a final tip – def do the pre-training – it may seem boring and like you don’t want to add 4 weeks ahead of the full program but, I believe building yourself up and into it is really important as well. But of course, that’s a personal preference.

Let me know how it goes!

  • hi thank you for your post and honest advise. i was looking thur BBG for over a month now. and i was still 50/50 if i should go ahead or not. since i’ve read your post you have given “THAT” push and motivation. i will be trying her 7 day trial. i’ll try to do it for 2 weeks or 2 times and then hopefully i’ll try to buy the 1st workout.

need your help with some questions:
    1. if i do take the 7 day trial. how many times do you suggest me to re-do it or repeat it?
    2. if i did not get or understood the work out in the booklet. where can i find the actual way in doing it?
    3. i want to see your updates and on your workout. where can i see it. do you have any instagram or snapchat?

    thank you

    • Dana says:

      Hi there!

Thanks for commenting. To your questions…

I’d give the 7 day trial a run through or two just to see how you like the workouts and stuff. But, I think the genius in the program is the progression (things getting harder) so, keep that in mind.

If you’re confused by any exercise in the booklet, there is an entire section where she breaks down, with photos, how to complete each and every exercise in it correctly. It’s very clear and easy to use.

I don’t really post updates in terms of my actually completing the exercises but, could start if that’s something people want to see. I’m on vacation this week so could potentially start next week. But if you #bbg or #bbgcommunity or #kaylasarmy, you’ll see PLENTY of women sharing their journey.

  • Liliana Miro says:

Hi I came across someone who posted a pic of themselves on Instagram with the same body frame just skinny. Inspired by her and the program I got the trial downloaded. However, how does the app know that my objective is to gain muscle mass ?
Please let me know with regards to this issue. Thx for being an inspiration to all of us!

  • sage says:

Hi, what type of equipment does one need for the workouts?

    • Dana says:

      Hi Sage!

I’ve only needed dumbbells and something to step up on. A medicine ball would also be helpful but, I’ve just improvised.

  • Kelly says:

What were your results at the end of the 12 week bbg? Did you end up sharing your before and after photo?

    • Dana says:

Hey Kelly! My results were great. I slimmed down a decent amount and I lost about 10 pounds (the weight loss I attribute to food, though, not exercise). I was way stronger, felt fantastic and I lost a few inches all around. It’s kind of crazy how different your body looks, though. Meaning, even if you don’t lose a bunch of inches or weight, the transformation is noticeable. And the intangible, non-weight or non-body results of sticking to something, seeing it through, and taking good care of yourself shouldn’t be discounted either 🙂 I actually didn’t post my before and after pics. Although I totally support everyone who does, I just couldn’t bring myself to post pics of me in undies on the internet, ya know? Maybe one day I’ll muster the courage, ha.

  • Lucy says:

Hi Dana, and thank you for your post! I am thinking about starting the workout and you definitely motivated me 😊
Now what I don’t understand is why it is “only” 12 weeks workout although some women post pictures saying like “bbg week 42″… Does that mean that there are other exercises once you have finished your 12 weeks or you just start all over again?
    Thank you for your answer!
    Lucy

    • Dana says:

      Hey Lucy,

Thanks for commenting! Glad you found some value and motivation in it. So yes, last I checked, there was BBG 1, which is weeks 1-12, then BBG 2 which is weeks 13-24. I think a lot of people just restart BBG 1 after the initial 12 weeks or start BBG 2. But yes, the “week 42” stuff is just people doing Kayla workouts consistently for that amount of time (I’m pretty sure). Hope this helps! Let us know how it goes. I’ve restarted the program myself and am super pumped!

  • Paulina says:

    Hey Dana,

Thanks for your descriptive post! I ran into this BBG info on FB and have been wanting to lose weight/slim down for a while but have nooo motivation what so ever, and gym just doesn’t work for me! I end up paying for the membership and just not going *real smart, eh*.
The question I have is, you keep talking about the 4-week pre-training program, but on Kayla’s website it says “Join now to start the 12 week program”. So, where do I start the pre-training program? Because I want to do a total of 16 weeks, not just 12 BBG … Do you know what I mean? Unless I’m looking at some wrong website, but I’m a little confused how this works. Also, I’m assuming all the workouts and every possible detail will be available to me once I sign up and pay because I still have a bunch of questions and don’t quite understand everything..??

    Hope to hear back soon!

    Thanks 🙂

    • Dana says:

      Hey Paulina!

Thanks for reaching out. Glad you found value in the post.

I do know what you mean. So the 12 week program, at least when I bought it, it could have changed, includes an optional 4 week pre-training as well. If you buy the guide, all 16 weeks are listed out for you. 4 weeks of pre-training and then the full BBG weeks 1-12. And yeah, it might sound confusing but, it’s really not. You buy the guide and then every single workout for the 16 weeks is mapped out for you. She even has specific breakdowns, with images, for every exercise in case you’re confused about how to do them.

You just open the guide to the upcoming workout, Week 1: Monday, for example, and do it. Super simple!

I’m happy to answer any other questions you might have, if I can.

      Best wishes!!!

  • LISA DEWSON says:

Hi Dana, Close to pushing subscribe and committing…. just wondering, if you stay on the monthly payment plan, let’s say forever, do your workouts change up after every 12 week program to give you variety? And also I was wondering if there is an option to do more resistance training using the old fashions weights room? I’ve just looked at the 7 day free trial and so far am impressed with everything. Thanks

    • Dana says:

      Hi Lisa!

Thanks for reaching out. So, I don’t know about that plan. I’ve bought the BBG 1 Guide as a one-time purchase. I’ve never used the app or the ongoing programs so, I can’t really speak to that. Perhaps another lady who’s read this or commenting would know? Also, you could reach out easily on Instagram to ask some of those ladies.

I can only say that from what I’ve seen in my own life and the online community, nobody who dives seems to regret it.

      Good luck!

  • Autumn Berryhill says:

Dana thank you for posting and being so honest about this product. I’m going to do the 7 day free trial. I carry a lot of belly fat from my pregnancy 13yrs ago. I’m so tired of the Yo-Yo diet that ends up adding more weight. Can’t wait to check out your free cleanse and this 7 day trial.

    Thank you,
    Autumn

  • Amanda says:

Quick question, I am currently working on the 7day free trial, i was wondering if once I buy the actual guide after the trial if i get more/different workouts? Or does the whoel guide only contain the workouts in the trial? Also once I buy the guide are there any back or lat excercises included?

    • Dana says:

      Hi Amanda,

The actual guide has 16 full weeks of workouts, many of them repeat but there are many more than what’s in the free trial. I’ not sure about specific back or lat exercises though, I think most circuits target full body and not specific areas, if that makes sense. I’m not a trainer though!

  • Alina says:

    Hi Dana,

First of all I want to thank you for your honest review, it motivated me and in the same time convinced me.
As others were saying here, I want to start the program but right now it’s a little hard to afford, so I was thinking to share the cost with a friend who also wants to start.
So, my question is if you know if that’s possible? I don’t know how the program works.

Thanks and keep up the good work!

  • Gaby says:

    Hi Dana,

I currently do weight lifting since I am trying to grow my muscles, do you think it´s possible to do both at the same time?

    • Dana says:

      Hey Gaby!

I’m not really sure, I’m not a personal trainer or fitness professional so I don’t think I’m the right person to answer that. Perhaps check out Kayla’s FAQs page for guidance?

  • Gaby says:

    Hi Dana!

Do you think it´s a good idea to do weight lifting and the program at the same time??

    Thank!

  • Sam Zettelmaier says:

Hi! Can you tell me a little bit more about your meal plan please? 🙂

    Thanks,
    Sam

    • Dana says:

      Hey Sam!

Thanks for commenting. Are you referring to The Simple Cleanse? Or The First 10 Pounds?

      – The Simple Cleanse is a 3-day reset that tells you exactly what to eliminate in your diet for a quick reboot.
      – The First 10 Pounds is a holistic nutrition course that helps you get going on lasting, sustainable weight loss.

Hope that answers your question! Feel free to email us at hello@croptopsandkale.com if you want to discuss either in more detail.

      Thanks again for reaching out!

  • Kaylie says:

    Hi Dana!
I was wondering if you are still doing BBG? I just started this week! So far its going really well, I feel stronger already! I was wondering if you have anymore results to share? Im getting a little worried that I wont see the results I want. I know it works because of her insta feed, but i just wanted to hear from you.

    • Dana says:

      Hi Kaylie!

I’ve done it intermittently since completing the first round. I’m planning to jump back in when I return from my New Year trip, though. How far along are you in the workouts? I started to really notice a difference around week 6/7. Stick with it! I think the biggest lesson I learned is that it takes consistency, over a decent amount of time to really change the shape of your body. And, I have to say, nutrition plans a huge role as well. Have you checked out our free cleanse? That’s a great place to start. Combining a clean diet and consistent exercise will be your best bet. Let me know if you have any other questions!!

  • Parker says:

    Hi Dana!!
So I am 15 years old and am looking to buy this program and start ASAP with the workouts and the meal plans. I am a little skeptical on how much it is going to work, and im wondering if you think it would be smart if I bought it considering im still in school and have some practices in the week. I really want to get fit and get muscle, but I dont know if buying this would be a mistake considering i still have a busy schedule during the day because of school!! Please tell me anything that would help me make a decision!!

    • Dana says:

      Hey Parker!

All I can tell you is that the workouts take about 30 minutes, 3x a week. If you think you have time to do that, I think you’d be all set. Plus, you’ll have the guide for life once you buy it. I’ve found it to be a great investment.

      Thanks for commenting!

  • Ku'ualoha Kanoa says:

Hey Dana! Nice blog post, it gave me a lot of useful information! I really want to start the BBG program… I recall reading in your post that the program did not really require much equipment, so would you still recommend getting a gym membership? Thanks much!

    • Dana says:

Hey there! Thanks for reaching out!

All I can say is that I think one of the many benefits of the guide is that you wind up saving a lot of money on gym memberships or classes so, for me, that was a big reason I bought it in the first place. If you feel getting a gym membership will help you, by all means but it’s definitely not necessary to complete the BBG program itself. A pair of sneakers, a mat, some dumbbells and something to step up on was all I needed to complete it!

      Hope that helps!

  • Sally says:

    Hello Dana!
Your article is great and you really convinced me to buy BBG! But i saw that you have 2 options. one is the bikini body workout guide and the other one is called the bikini body bundle. Are the workouts in both these packages the same? or is there a difference and which one did you buy? thank you very much!!

    • Dana says:

      Hey Sally!

      Thanks so much for commenting!

I bought the bundle, as I wanted to check out her food guide as well but, I didn’t love that part. The workouts were all I really used so I would just get the Bikini Body Workout Guide, not the bundle, and save some loot (If you’re looking for a nutrition guide – The Simple Cleanse we created is 100% free if you haven’t scooped that yet.)

The BBG workout guide should include weeks 1-12 plus pre-training exercises too. Though the workouts, I do believe, are in both.

      Thanks again and GOOD LUCK!

  • Xanthe says:

    Hi Dana,

I’ve just accidentally stumbled across your blog and I’m so glad as I’ve just been reading all these questions & answers (so helpful) but wondered if you would be able to give me a bit of advice, I’ve just purchased the sweat with Kayla app for the next 3 months, but I find the meals and recipes quite hard to follow with a busy life, I’ve tried to use them as more of a guideline. Would you say its more about sticking to the workouts rather than following the eating plan religiously too? I’m hoping I’ll see results soon if I maintain my own healthy(ish) eating ways?

    Thank you x

    • Dana says:

      Hey there!

Thanks so much for the kind words! I’m glad you’re finding this discussion useful!

I think it depends. To lose physical weight on the scale, food is the most important component. But to change the tone and shape of your body, the workouts are the key. To do both combined is the best, most effective option (obvi). I think it just depends on what your goals are, really.

And that’s not to discount all of the non-scale victories that come with eating well and working out.

I guess what I’m saying is – definitely don’t ignore the food part if you want to lose weight. And that being said, we truly, truly believe that our free, 3-day reset is the best way to eat if you want to lose weight (and feel amazing). Even if you just follow the general guidelines. If you haven’t tried that yet, and you’re not digging Kayla’s food plan, see if ours easier for you, it might be the perfect complement to your workouts!

And remember, food is the foundation, you can’t exercise off a poor diet, if that makes sense.

      Hope this helps! Good luck!

  • Xanthe says:

    Hi,

Thanks so much for your reply and advice! This helps, I generally have a good diet already, but having taken results before pictures and wanting to see a difference this is stopping me picking at little things that I think won’t make a difference but all add up!

I will definitely check out your food plan!

    thanks again,

    Xanthe

  • Emily says:

    Hi Dana, excellent blog!
So I’ve been eying of Kaylas BBG program for ages and I’m always intrigued. I downloaded the 7 day free trial and it looked good but the food choices got me a little confused and concerned.
I am what I like to affectionately refer to as a cross fitting health wanker lol. I do cross fit 3-5 days a week. When it comes to food I’m 80% paleo in the way of still have brown rice and quinoa and lactose free milk and desserts on the weekends. You mention that you offer a free meal plan and I’m wondering if it would be something to suit my chosen type of diet?
I’m interested in increasing strength, fitness and losing these last 10 pounds that constantly yoyo up and down.

    • Dana says:

      Hey Emily!

      Thanks for reaching out!

Our free meal plan is The Simple Cleanse. It’s a free, 3-day reset we offer on the site. It’s definitely aligned with paleo principles so, it would definitely suit you.

Also, if you’re interested in stabilizing your weight and getting off the yo-yo train, check out our course, The First 10 Pounds. We just released it in December and it awesome, if we do say so ourselves 🙂

      Thanks again for commenting!!

Hi Dana! Thank you so much for this amazing article, I enjoyed reading it. I’ll get right into what i want to say.. so i’ve been working out regularly for about two years, but my body is actually kind of starting to get used to this lifestyle, i’m noticing cilulite, some fat is starting to accumulate due to sweets which is something i can’t quit 🙁 so I’m thinking of buying this program and trying it, the question is: how much did it exactly cost you? i actaully found the guide online for free, is it possible or is it a scam?

  • Preet says:

    Hi Dana,

I am just about to start BBG but am contemplating whether or not to start with the pre-training. Did you notice any weight loss or any changes at all when completing the pre-training?

    Many thanks

    • Dana says:

      Hi Preet!

Thanks for commenting. I would go with the pre-training as the workouts are tough and pre-training helps you build up to them. It probably depends on how fit you are to start though. Hope that helps!

  • Avani dhruve says:

Hey , I am a vegetarian can you please send me your diet on the mentioned email id.
Also loved your review simple and to the point plan to start my bbg soon. Thanks 🙂

    • Dana says:

      Hey Avani!

Thanks for the kind words. Just sent The Simple Cleanse over to you. Let us know if you don’t get it for some reason!

      Thanks!

  • Colleen Basilan says:

    Hi Dana,

Great Blog :)! I am ready to purchase BBG but I noticed there is a site that offers the package at a discounted price (80%). The total would be $40 instead of her site price $150. Do you by chance know if the discounted site is legit?

    Thank you,

    Colleen

    • Dana says:

      Hi Colleen,

We don’t know if that site is legit. We’d encourage you to buy it from Kayla directly though.

      Have a nice day!

  • Hannah says:

I was just hoping to get the free eating plan! Reading your review was VERY helpful. I’ve been researching the program for a couple weeks now and want to start!

  • Emiline says:

I’d love a copy of your plan too . Thanks for the review . It’s actually been really tricky to find an honest review of BBG. I’m inspired to do it now

  • Kelli Stanton says:

Hi Dana! This review is awesome and incredibly helpful! After reading this honest review, I definitely will be getting on board with the BBG! I went to the free 3 day reset meal plan and I entered my email but for some reason haven’t received the email. Do you know how long it will take to get to me so I can be on the lookout for it? I was also wondering if this is a pretty restrictive meal plan? I’ve used Advocare 24 Day Challenge before and sometimes that can feel very restrictive and I fly off the handle once I’m finished with the challenge so I’m looking for something that is easy to stick with and I can still live my life (just healthier). Thank you!!

    • Dana says:

      Hey Kelli!

I will double check your signup and if something went wrong, I’ll send it over now. You should have gotten it immediately!

The Simple Cleanse isn’t necessarily restrictive, though there are a handle of foods we suggest avoiding to reboot your system. There are tons of healthy whole foods you can eat though, so you shouldn’t be hungry!

  • Kelli Stanton says:

Thank you, Dana! I still didn’t receive the email🤔 I’ll try again! Thank you for the details on the meal plans, I look forward to trying it out!

  • Carolina says:

Hi Dana! Thank you for the review. I have been tempted to buy the kayla subscription (the app Sweat with Kayla) but I dont have a gym membership//equipment at home. Do you think its still possible to achieve weight loss with this plan without those things?

    • Dana says:

      Hi Carolina,

Yes, it’s totally possible to lose weight and get fit without a gym membership or equipment at home. If you have something to step up on, like a bench or a chair, and something you can lift instead of weights, you should be good. Most of it is body weight exercises.

      Good luck!

  • Haley says:

Hello, I’ve sent my email (I think) to you lol. Hopefully this program keeps me motivated. I’ve been trying to find a workout that I can consistently do but I’ve had a hard time. 😕 and my eating habits are horrible so I’m looking to improve that side of my health as well.

  • Grace Crawford says:

Hi Dana, thank you for this interesting read and review. I have been following BBG in instagram and contemplating on buying and joining. Would you be so kind to send me the BBG eating plan as well? Thank you.

  • Ivy says:

Hey! So I am debating buying BBG but sorta ish because of the money. I am a college student and don’t really want to spend all that much..I noticed you said the food guide wasn’t helpful? Would it be smart to just buy the workout guide instead?

  • Samantha says:

Can I also get a copy of FREE healthy eating plan please~ Here is my email: 637liu@gmail.com
    Cheers!

  • Ashley says:

    Hi Dana!
I’ve been thinking about doing this program for awhile now and after reading your review I think I’m going to take the plunge. I do advocare pretty regularly but would love the opportunity to see the eating plan if you wouldn’t mind. Thank you so much!!!

  • taylorknblog says:

Hello! Did you do the eating plan that Kayla provides with it or did you follow your own?

  • Elle says:

    Hi Dana,

I found your review super encouraging. I noticed you reviewed this in 2016, and am wondering how you’re feeling after completing the program? I’m currently on Week 3, and loving it (feeling completely challenged by it, but also impatient to see results lol).

    Best,
    Elle

    • Dana says:

      Hey Elle,

I felt great after the program and kept it up for a while. But, I’m actually pregnant now so I’ve slowed down a bit but, intend to get going again after the baby.

      Good luck!

      Dana

  • Maddie says:

Hi Dana, thank you for the detailed review on BBG. Can you send me a copy of the eating plan you mentioned in your review?

  • Manuela Ramirez says:

Hi Dana, how can I get a copy of the eating plan you mentioned on your review? Thanks!

  • Pam says:

    Hi Dana!
Quick question for you about the guideline of the workouts. Resistance you do three days a week, cardio (LISS/HIIT) twice, stretching once and rest one? I can’t seem to figure it out hahah it can’t be that difficult but I’m struggling, lol! I have the Sweat app on my phone but still lost. Help?! 🙂

    • Dana says:

      Hey Pam,

Yep, at least, that’s what was in the guide. I did 3x a week resistance/strength, 2x a week LISS and 1x a week stretch plus a day off. I don’t know much about the app but, it was confusing to me too. I just used the guide.

      Hope that helps!

  • Micah says:

Hi Dana. Can i also have the copy? 🙂

  • AG says:

Hi can you please send me the healthy eating plan too? Thanks!

  • Ameera says:

Hi Dana. Can you please send me a copy of the eating plan? Thank you!

  • Rachel says:

    Hi Dana,

Loved your review. Im so back and forth if i want to give in and purchase BBG or not. And the guides vs app is confusing to me. Can you please send me the meal plan you mentioned? Thank you!!!

    • Dana says:

      Hey Rachel!

Thanks for reading! I really preferred the guide over the app because it was so straightforward and easy to follow. And I personally loved checking the days off and following my progress via pictures. It’s really the structure of it that made it effective for me. Have you checked her return policy? I can’t say I have but perhaps that would remove any hesitation. Also, I promise if you buy it and follow it, you won’t regret the purchase.

I’ll send the nutrition plan over now.

      Have a great day!

  • Deekshitha says:

Hey, this article was really helpful. Thank you! I was wondering, I want to lose weight specifically in the thigh and butt area and i am aware that specific weight loss is not possible. But do you think doing BBG would help lose weight in those and areas and not convert the fat into muscle? (Maybe a stupid question)

Also would appreciate it if you could send me your diet plan?
    Thank you
    loads of love xxx

    • Dana says:

      Hey Deekshitha!

I definitely think that BBG would help in those areas. Kayla herself has said that she designed the workouts to tone the areas women are most sensitive about – belly, thighs and butt! And at the end of the day, whatever you’re doing to be as healthy and fit as possible, will also have you looking your best!

      Also… not a stupid question!

I’ll you send the nutrition plan now.

      Thanks!
      Dana

  • Jamie says:

  • Valentina says:

Hi Dana, thank you for the review. Really useful!
Would love to see your eating plan if you can share 🙂 xx

  • Kacie says:

Can you tell me about the variety? Is it different each week? I need to have some variations week to week or I will get bored and lost my motivation.

    Thanks,
    Kacie

    • Dana says:

      Hi Kacie!

The workouts vary week to week but, not TOO much. There are definitely a lot of exercises that repeat. I think it’s because you’re building up your strength and endurance. So you’ll see the same exercises (but not all) repeated for a few weeks before moving on to a new one, if that makes sense. There’s definitely variety but, the entire workout does not change each time.

      Hope that helps!

      – Dana

I am really interested in this workout plan and would love a copy of the meal plan! Thanks

  • Allie says:

I am also interested in your meal plan please? 😊

Is this something you would recommend for someone who has never really worked out much or stuck with any workout program? Also a busy mom with 2 kids that is dying to lose this baby weight??

    • Dana says:

      Hi Allie!

I would recommend it for anyone, really. Since it’s mostly body weight, and timed circuits, you basically do as much as you personally can, so it works for each individual fitness level. If you do take the plunge, I would highly recommend starting with the 4 weeks of ‘pre-training’ that are included in the program, as that will help you build up to it and get to know some of the exercises.

As for the busy mom with 2 kids part, the beauty of the program is that it’s 28 minutes 3 times a week, plus walking or light cardio in between. All of which can be done at home, at any hour of the day, so it’s really the least amount of planning, scheduling and time required to actually make an impact (in my humble opinion 🙂 )

As for the baby weight part, focusing on the nutrition is what is going to move the scale and help you lose the extra weight (I’ll send you our free plan). Focusing on the exercise is what is going to change your body and get you in shape. Doing both will have you feeling good with lots of energy.

I really think though, that the confidence that comes with committing to the program, and checking each of those workouts off as you go, is the best part of all. If you do jump in, be sure to check out the community on Instagram too – it’s so inspiring and helpful.

      Good luck!

    • Dana says:

Yeah that binder really has come in handy for me. It’s kind of like reading, the ereaders are fine but, I still much prefer and old school book 🙂

Sure! I’ll send it over now. Good luck!

Hi! Can I please have the meal plan too?! I just got cleared after baby and would love to get started! Also, did you get these results while doing cardio during the off days or was this only from the 3 days a week workouts? Thank you!

    • Dana says:

Hi Courtney! Just had a baby myself, congratulations! I did do some cardio on the off days, yes. But nothing crazy. Just stick with it and you will definitely get results. To lose weight though, the food is super important. Just sent over the meal plan.

  • Joanna says:

Hi Dana! Thanks for this review— I’m thinking about doing BBG for the New Year (cliché, right?). I’d love to take a look at your meal plan, too, if you could send it over! Thanks!

    • Dana says:

Not cliché at all, Joanna! I’m hoping to get cleared for exercise (after having a baby in November) and I plan to restart the program in the New Year to get back in shape and drop the baby weight! Just sent over the meal plan, hope it’s helpful! Good luck!

  • Jeannie Marks says:

Hi! I’m Jeannie and I’d love to have the meal plan! Also considering doing BBG this year! Thanks!

  • Hi Dana!
    Thanks for this review!
Just curious, if I were to decide to do the BBG guide 100% at home what do I need in the way of equipment? Or would you not recommend doing it strictly from home?

    • Dana says:

      Hi Nicole,

Thanks for reading! I actually did the entire program at home. All I needed were some dumbbells, a jump rope, a yoga mat, and something to step up on (I used a sturdy chair). This did limit a couple of exercises but, I just improvised. I wasn’t going to invest in an entire at-home gym. I think my results were pretty awesome despite swapping out a few (and by a couple I literally mean like 2 or 3) exercises for similar ones that I had the equipment for. Most of the entire program is body-weight. I would 100% recommend doing it at home, that’s what makes it super convenient (in my opinion). I plan to do it at home again this year too, once I’m done with physical therapy for some pregnancy woes. I have a newborn now and getting to the gym is not easy!

      Hope this helps!

      Good luck!

  • Tori says:

Do you know if it would be ok to do for a recovering diastasis recti Mom? (Lots of crunches and planks are usually a no go for me.) Also, if I’m actively trying to get pregnant is it relatively safe? Never too late to try and lose the baby weight before the next one, right? 😜
Lastly, can I get your meal plan too? Thanks so much!!

    • Dana says:

      Hi Tori,

I don’t know about that, actually. There are a lot of crunches involved. If I were you, I’d check out Nora Matthew‘s (of Pregna-fit) postpartum program or reach out to her directly, she specializes in all things pregnancy and postpartum fitness. I took her classes myself and they were amazing. Tell her I sent you!

I’ll send the meal plan over to you now. Let me know if you’d like to chat further!

  • Kaytlin says:

I have been doing research over this workout program and your review totally won me over! I would love a copy of that meal plan, please & thank you!

Hi Dana! I was researching about Kayla’s BBG program and I landed on your review! Thank you for it as it really made me consider it as this year’s challenge :). If it’s ok, would love the free healthy meal plan to really make the most of it! I’m really excited about this so, thank you again!

  • Grace says:

Hey! I will be starting the BY Program soon and I would love to receive the meal plan! Thank you so much your story has inspired me to do it.

Hey! Could you please send me the meal plan? Thanks 😊

  • Rebecca Helm says:

Hello! Thank you for your amazing blog! I’m pregnant now and I feel like I’ve gotten a new body I’m not used to. I’d never heard about this fitness program. I’m excited to try it! I’ll wait for a bit after I’m not pregnant anymore though and I get cleared by my doctor. I think I’ll be old school and print it out and bind it like you did – good idea!

And thank you so much for sharing your meal plan to everyone. I’m hoping I can get a copy too?

    THANK YOU!

    • Dana says:

      Hey Rebecca!

Congrats on expecting a little one! I just had my son in November so I totally hear you on the whole new body thing. I’ll send the meal plan over now.

While pregnant I did Nora Matthew’s program Pregna-fit. You should check her out. It’s specifically designed for pregnancy and helps keep your body strong for labor and recovery. I really loved it.

      Hey Logan!

Good for you! I’m jealous, I can’t start again until I’m done with physical therapy. Good luck! Sending the meal plan now.

  • Molly says:

    Hey there!
Molly here! I’ve been wanting to start Kayla’s BBG program since before Christmas but, waited because of all the amazing food I was going to be eating, making it a New Year’s Resolution of mine! I’m really excited to start. So, you really recommend those who are out of shape to do the pre-training?
And, could I also take a peek at that meal plan?! I’ve began my healthy eating journey but, would love to know about some more yummy recipes I can make!
    Thanks again!!
    -Molly

    • Dana says:

      Hey Molly, good for you!

I def recommend doing the pre-training, especially if you haven’t worked out in a bit. The program is pretty tough so building up to it really helped me stick with it I think.

Of course, I’ll send the meal plan over to you now. Good luck with everything!

  • Rebecca says:

    Hello Dana,

Thank you for your honest review. I’m still on the edge but have a more positive feeling about the program. I would love to have a copy of your meal plan as well.

    Thank you in advance!!

    -Becca

  • Amy says:

Going to start this program soon!! I am trying to get back In shape after having my first baby! Could you send me over the meal plan? Also, do you suggest doing the monthly bbg plan? I wasnt sure which to buy or if I needed to buy a whole year plan if the workouts can be printed? Thanks!

    • Dana says:

      Hey, Amy!

Good for you, I’m going to try to start tomorrow (pending how my back handles it). I’ll send the meal plan over now. I purchased the original PDF guide before the app/monthly plan was available. I really liked the simplicity of the guide but, I think either one would be effective. I don’t know much about the monthly plan to be honest.

  • Dana says:

Hi Dana! Thanks for the review! I think I will start the plan too. I would love to have a copy of your meal plan! Thank you xx

  • DAyna says:

I’ll take a meal plan !!! I’m trying to decide between the app and the guides , do u get the guides immediately through email so you can start and has anyone done the trial and cancelled the app .. I don’t know which one would be most beneficial but want to start Monday !!!!

    • Dana says:

Hey DAyna! I’ll send the meal plan over now. I got mine immediately via email, yes. But that was a long time ago not sure how it works. I’m sure either plan will be effective though. Good luck!

  • Kenzie says:
